Breezes blowin' middlin' briskA
Snow flakes thro' the air a whiskA
Fallin' kind o' soft an' lightB
Not enough to make things whiteB
But jest sorter siftin' downC
So 's to cover up the brownC
Of the dark world's rugged waysD
'N' make things look like holidaysD
Not smoothed over but jest speckedB
Sorter strainin' fur effectB
An' not quite a gittin' throughE
What it started in to doE
Mercy sakes it does seem queerF
Christmas day is 'most nigh hereG
Somehow it don't seem to meH
Christmas like it used to beH
Christmas with its ice an' snowI
Christmas of the long agoI
You could feel its stir an' humJ
Weeks an' weeks before it comeJ
Somethin' in the atmosphereF
Told you when the day was nearF
Did n't need no almanacsD
That was one o' Nature's fac'sD
Every cottage decked out gayK
Cedar wreaths an' holly sprayK
An' the stores how they were drestE
Tinsel tell you could n't restE
Every winder fixed up patE
Candy canes an' things like thatE
Noah's arks an' guns an' dollsD
An' all kinds o' fol de rolsD
Then with frosty bells a chimeL
Slidin' down the hills o' timeL
Right amidst the fun an' dinM
Christmas come a bustlin' inM
Raised his cheery voice to callN
Out a welcome to us allN
Hale and hearty strong an' bluffO
That was Christmas sure enoughO
Snow knee deep an' coastin' fineP
Frozen mill ponds all ashineP
Seemin' jest to lay in waitE
Beggin' you to come an' skateE
An' you 'd git your gal an' goI
Stumpin' cheerily thro' the snowI
Feelin' pleased an' skeert an' warmQ
'Cause she had a holt yore armR
Why when Christmas come in weH
Spent the whole glad day in gleeH
Havin' fun an' feastin' highS
An' some courtin' on the slyS
Bustin' in some neighbor's doorT
An' then suddenly beforeT
He could give his voice a liftE
Yellin' at him Christmas giftE
Now sich things are never heardE
Merry Christmas is the wordE
But it's only change o' nameU
An' means givin' jest the sameU
There 's too many new styled waysD
Now about the holidaysD
I 'd jest like once more to seeH
Christmas like it used to beH
