On The Dedication Of Dorothy Hall, Tuskegee, Ala, April 22, 1901 Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAC DEFE GHGH IJIJ KLML NONO

Not to the midnight of the gloomy pastA
Do we revert to day we look uponB
The golden present and the future vastA
Whose vistas show us visions of the dawnC
-
Nor shall the sorrows of departed yearsD
The sweetness of our tranquil souls annoyE
The sunshine of our hopes dispels the tearsF
And clears our eyes to see this later joyE
-
Not ever in the years that God hath givenG
Have we gone friendless down the thorny wayH
Always the clouds of pregnant black were rivenG
By flashes from His own eternal dayH
-
The women of a race should be its prideI
We glory in the strength our mothers hadJ
We glory that this strength was not deniedI
To labor bravely nobly and be gladJ
-
God give to these within this temple hereK
Clear vision of the dignity of toilL
That virtue in them may its blossoms rearM
Unspotted fragrant from the lowly soilL
-
God bless the givers for their noble deedN
Shine on them with the mercy of Thy faceO
Who come with open hearts to help and speedN
The striving women of a struggling raceO
