TUSKEGEE ALA APRILA
-
Not to the midnight of the gloomy pastB
Do we revert to day we look uponC
The golden present and the future vastB
Whose vistas show us visions of the dawnD
-
Nor shall the sorrows of departed yearsE
The sweetness of our tranquil souls annoyF
The sunshine of our hopes dispels the tearsG
And clears our eyes to see this later joyF
-
Not ever in the years that God hath givenH
Have we gone friendless down the thorny wayI
Always the clouds of pregnant black were rivenH
By flashes from His own eternal dayI
-
The women of a race should be its prideJ
We glory in the strength our mothers hadK
We glory that this strength was not deniedJ
To labor bravely nobly and be gladK
-
God give to these within this temple hereL
Clear vision of the dignity of toilM
That virtue in them may its blossoms rearN
Unspotted fragrant from the lowly soilM
-
God bless the givers for their noble deedO
Shine on them with the mercy of Thy faceP
Who come with open hearts to help and speedO
The striving women of a struggling raceP
