Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDDEE FGFGHHII JDKDLFMMOctober is the treasurer of the year | A |
And all the months pay bounty to her store | B |
The fields and orchards still their tribute bear | C |
And fill her brimming coffers more and more | B |
But she with youthful lavishness | D |
Spends all her wealth in gaudy dress | D |
And decks herself in garments bold | E |
Of scarlet purple red and gold | E |
- | |
She heedeth not how swift the hours fly | F |
But smiles and sings her happy life along | G |
She only sees above a shining sky | F |
She only hears the breezes' voice in song | G |
Her garments trail the woodlands through | H |
And gather pearls of early dew | H |
That sparkle till the roguish Sun | I |
Creeps up and steals them every one | I |
- | |
But what cares she that jewels should be lost | J |
When all of Nature's bounteous wealth is hers | D |
Though princely fortunes may have been their cost | K |
Not one regret her calm demeanor stirs | D |
Whole hearted happy careless free | L |
She lives her life out joyously | F |
Nor cares when Frost stalks o'er her way | M |
And turns her auburn locks to gray | M |
