Lincoln Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEFGGHHIJKK

Hurt was the nation with a mighty woundA
And all her ways were filled with clam'rous soundA
Wailed loud the South with unremitting griefB
And wept the North that could not find reliefB
Then madness joined its harshest tone to strifeC
A minor note swelled in the song of lifeC
'Till stirring with the love that filled his breastD
But still unflinching at the right's behestD
Grave Lincoln came strong handed from afarE
The mighty Homer of the lyre of warF
'T was he who bade the raging tempest ceaseG
Wrenched from his harp the harmony of peaceG
Muted the strings that made the discord WrongH
And gave his spirit up in thund'rous songH
Oh mighty Master of the mighty lyreI
Earth heard and trembled at thy strains of fireJ
Earth learned of thee what Heav'n already knewK
And wrote thee down among her treasured fewK
