James Whitcomb Riley Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCDCEFEFGHEHHIJI HKEKEAKALBKBMKNKEICI

From a Westerner's Point of ViewA
-
No matter what you call itB
Whether genius or artC
He sings the simple songs that comeD
The closest to your heartC
Fur trim an' skillful phrasesE
I do not keer a jotF
'Tain't the words alone but feelin'sE
That tech the tender spotF
An' that's jest why I love himG
Why he's got sech human feelin'H
An' in ev'ry song he gives usE
You kin see it creepin' stealin'H
Through the core the tears go tricklin'H
But the edge is bright an' smileyI
I never saw a poetJ
Like that poet Whitcomb RileyI
-
His heart keeps beatin' time with our'nH
In measures fast or slowK
He tells us jest the same ol' thingsE
Our souls have learned to knowK
He paints our joys an' sorrersE
In a way so stric'ly trueA
That a body can't help knowin'K
That he has felt them tooA
If there's a lesson to be taughtL
He never fears to teach itB
An' he puts the food so good an' lowK
That the humblest one kin reach itB
Now in our time when poets rhymeM
For money fun or fashionK
'Tis good to hear one voice so clearN
That thrills with honest passionK
So let the others build their songsE
An' strive to polish highlyI
There's none of them kin tech the heartC
Like our own Whitcomb RileyI
