In Summer Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE GHIH JKLK FMNN ONPN NNQN ORSR

Oh summer has clothed the earthA
In a cloak from the loom of the sunB
And a mantle too of the skies' soft blueC
And a belt where the rivers runB
-
And now for the kiss of the windD
And the touch of the air's soft handsE
With the rest from strife and the heat of lifeF
With the freedom of lakes and landsE
-
I envy the farmer's boyG
Who sings as he follows the plowH
While the shining green of the young blades leanI
To the breezes that cool his browH
-
He sings to the dewy mornJ
No thought of another's earK
But the song he sings is a chant for kingsL
And the whole wide world to hearK
-
He sings of the joys of lifeF
Of the pleasures of work and restM
From an o'erfull heart without aim or artN
'T is a song of the merriestN
-
O ye who toil in the townO
And ye who moil in the martN
Hear the artless song and your faith made strongP
Shall renew your joy of heartN
-
Oh poor were the worth of the worldN
If never a song were heardN
If the sting of grief had no reliefQ
And never a heart were stirredN
-
So long as the streams run downO
And as long as the robins trillR
Let us taunt old Care with a merry airS
And sing in the face of illR
