Harriet Beecher Stowe Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBACDCDCD

She told the story and the whole world weptA
At wrongs and cruelties it had not knownB
But for this fearless woman's voice aloneB
She spoke to consciences that long had sleptA
Her message Freedom's clear reveille sweptA
From heedless hovel to complacent throneB
Command and prophecy were in the toneB
And from its sheath the sword of justice leaptA
Around two peoples swelled a fiery waveC
But both came forth transfigured from the flameD
Blest be the hand that dared be strong to saveC
And blest be she who in our weakness cameD
Prophet and priestess At one stroke she gaveC
A race to freedom and herself to fameD
