Emancipation Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB ACAC ADAD EFEG AHAH IJKJ LMLM

Fling out your banners your honors be bringingA
Raise to the ether your paeans of praiseB
Strike every chord and let music be ringingA
Celebrate freely this day of all daysB
-
Few are the years since that notable blessingA
Raised you from slaves to the powers of menC
Each year has seen you my brothers progressingA
Never to sink to that level againC
-
Perched on your shoulders sits Liberty smilingA
Perched where the eyes of the nations can seeD
Keep from her pinions all contact defilingA
Show by your deeds what you're destined to beD
-
Press boldly forward nor waver nor falterE
Blood has been freely poured out in your causeF
Lives sacrificed upon Liberty's alterE
Press to the front it were craven to pauseG
-
Look to the heights that are worth your attainingA
Keep your feet firm in the path to the goalH
Toward noble deeds every effort be strainingA
Worthy ambition is food for the soulH
-
Up Men and brothers be noble be earnestI
Ripe is the time and success is assuredJ
Know that your fate was the hardest and sternestK
When through those lash ringing days you enduredJ
-
Never again shall the manacles gall youL
Never again shall the whip stroke defameM
Nobles and Freemen your destinies call youL
Onward to honor to glory and fameM
