Caught Susanner whistlin' wellA
It's most nigh too good to tellA
'Twould 'a' b'en too good to seeB
Ef it had n't b'en fur meB
Comin' up so soft an' slyC
That she didn' hear me nighC
I was pokin' 'round that dayD
An' ez I come down the wayD
First her whistle strikes my earsE
Then her gingham dress appearsE
So with soft step up I slipsF
Oh them dewy rosy lipsF
Ripe ez cherries red an' roundG
Puckered up to make the soundG
She was lookin' in the springH
Whistlin' to beat anythingH
Kitty Dale er In the SweetI
I was jest so mortal beatI
That I can't quite ricoleckH
What the toon was but I 'speckH
'T was some hymn er other furJ
Hymny things is jest like herJ
Well she went on fur awhileK
With her face all in a smileK
An' I never moved but stoodL
Stiller 'n a piece o' woodL
Would n't wink ner would n't stirJ
But a gazin' right at herJ
Tell she turns an' sees me myC
Thought at first she 'd try to flyC
But she blushed an' stood her groundG
Then a slyly lookin' roundG
She says Did you hear me BenM
Whistlin' woman crowin' henM
Says I lookin' awful sternN
Then the red commenced to burnN
In them cheeks o' hern Why laO
Reddest red you ever sawP
Pineys wa'n't a circumstanceQ
You 'd 'a' noticed in a glanceQ
She was pow'rful shamed an' skeartG
But she looked so sweet an' peartG
That a idee struck my headG
So I up an' slowly saidG
Woman whistlin' brings shore harmR
Jest one thing 'll break the charmR
And what's that Oh my says IC
I don't like to tell you WhyC
Says Susanner Well you seeB
It would kinder fall on meB
Course I knowed that she 'd insistG
So I says You must be kissedG
By the man that heard you whistleS
Everybody says that this 'llS
Break the charm and set you freeB
From the threat'nin' penaltyB
She was blushin' fit to killS
But she answered kinder stillS
I don't want to have no harmR
Please come Ben an' break the charmR
Did I break that charm oh wellS
There's some things I must n't tellS
I remember afterwhileS
Her a sayin' with a smileS
Oh you quit you sassy dunceB
You jest caught me whistlin' onceB
Ev'ry sence that when I hearT
Some one whistlin' kinder clearU
I most break my neck to seeB
Ef it 's Susy but dear meB
I jest find I 've b'en to chaseB
Some blamed boy about the placeB
Dad 's b'en noticin' my wayD
An' last night I heerd him sayD
We must send fur Dr GlennM
Mother somethin 's wrong with BenM
