Booker T Washington Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBCCBBCDEDEDE

The word is writ that he who runs may readA
What is the passing breath of earthly fameB
But to snatch glory from the hands of blameB
That is to be to live to strive indeedC
A poor Virginia cabin gave the seedC
And from its dark and lowly door there cameB
A peer of princes in the world's acclaimB
A master spirit for the nation's needC
Strong silent purposeful beyond his kindD
The mark of rugged force on brow and lipE
Straight on he goes nor turns to look behindD
Where hot the hounds come baying at his hipE
With one idea foremost in his mindD
Like the keen prow of some on forging shipE
