At Sunset Time Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFDGDH IJIJKLKL

Adown the west a golden glowA
Sinks burning in the seaB
And all the dreams of long agoA
Come flooding back to meB
The past has writ a story strangeC
Upon my aching heartD
But time has wrought a subtle changeC
My wounds have ceased to smartD
-
No more the quick delight of youthE
No more the sudden painF
I look no more for trust or truthE
Where greed may compass gainF
What was it I who bared my heartD
Through unrelenting yearsG
And knew the sting of misery's dartD
The tang of sorrow's tearsH
-
'Tis better now I do not weepI
I do not laugh nor careJ
My soul and spirit half asleepI
Drift aimless everywhereJ
We float upon a sluggish streamK
We ride no rapids madL
While life is all a tempered dreamK
And every joy half sadL
