At Cheshire Cheese Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB CCAA AAAA DDAA EEAA

When first of wise old Johnson taughtA
My youthful mind its homage broughtA
And made the pond'rous crusty sageB
The object of a noble rageB
-
Nor did I think How dense we areC
That any day however farC
Would find me holding unrepelledA
The place that Doctor Johnson heldA
-
But change has come and time has movedA
And now applauded unreprovedA
I hold with pardonable prideA
The place that Johnson occupiedA
-
Conceit Presumption What is thisD
You surely read my words amissD
Like Johnson I a man of mindA
How could you ever be so blindA
-
No At the ancient Cheshire CheeseE
Blown hither by some vagrant breezeE
To dignify my shallow witA
In Doctor Johnson's seat I sitA
