We is gathahed hyeah my brothahsA
In dis howlin' wildanessA
Fu' to speak some words of comfo'tB
To each othah in distressA
An' we chooses fu' ouah subjic'C
Dis we'll 'splain it by an' byD
An' de Lawd said 'Moses Moses 'E
An' de man said 'Hyeah am I 'E
-
Now ole Pher'oh down in EgyptB
Was de wuss man evah bo'nF
An' he had de Hebrew chillunF
Down dah wukin' in his co'nF
'T well de Lawd got tiahed o' his foolin'F
An' sez he I' ll let him knowF
Look hyeah Moses go tell Pher'ohG
Fu' to let dem chillun goF
-
An' ef he refuse to do itB
I will make him rue de houahH
Fu' I'll empty down on EgyptB
All de vials of my powahI
Yes he did an' Pher'oh's ahmyJ
Wasn't wuth a ha'f a dimeJ
Fu' de Lawd will he'p his chillunF
You kin trust him evah timeJ
-
An' yo' enemies may 'sail youK
In de back an' in de frontB
But de Lawd is all aroun' youK
Fu' to ba' de battle's bruntB
Dey kin fo'ge yo' chains an' shacklesA
F'om de mountains to de seaA
But de Lawd will sen' some MosesA
Fu' to set his chillun freeA
-
An' de lan' shall hyeah his thundahB
Lak a blas' f'om Gab'el's ho'nF
Fu' de Lawd of hosts is mightyB
When he girds his ahmor onF
But fu' feah some one mistakes meB
I will pause right hyeah to sayA
Dat I 'm still a preachin' ancientB
I ain't talkin' 'bout to dayA
-
But I tell you fellah christunsA
Things'll happen mighty strangeL
Now de Lawd done dis fu' IsrulM
An' his ways don't nevah changeL
An' de love he showed to IsrulM
Was n't all on Isrul spentB
Now don't run an' tell yo' mastahsA
Dat I's preachin' discontentB
-
'Cause I isn't I'se a judgin'F
Bible people by deir ac'sA
I 'se a givin' you de ScriptuahB
I 'se a handin' you de fac'sA
Cose ole Pher'oh b'lieved in slav'ryA
But de Lawd he let him seeA
Dat de people he put bref inF
Evah mothah's son was freeA
-
An' dahs othahs thinks lak Pher'ohA
But dey calls de Scriptuah liarA
Fu' de Bible says a servantB
Is a worthy of his hireA
An' you cain't git roun' nor thoo datB
An' you cain't git ovah itB
Fu' whatevah place you git inF
Dis hyeah Bible too 'll fitB
-
So you see de Lawd's intentionF
Evah sence de worl' beganF
Was dat His almighty freedomJ
Should belong to evah manF
But I think it would be bettahB
Ef I'd pause agin to sayA
Dat I'm talkin' 'bout ouah freedomJ
In a Bibleistic wayA
-
But de Moses is a comin'F
An' he's comin' suah and fas'A
We kin hyeah his feet a trompin'F
We kin hyeah his trumpit blas'A
But I want to wa'n you peopleM
Don't you git too brigityB
An' don't you git to braggin'F
'Bout dese things you wait an' seeA
-
But when Moses wif his powahA
Comes an' sets us chillun freeA
We will praise de gracious MastahB
Dat has gin us libertyB
An' we 'll shout ouah halleluyahsA
On dat mighty reck'nin' dayB
When we 'se reco'nised ez citiz'A
Huh uh Chillun let us prayB
