A Thanksgiving Poem Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAC DEDE FGFG HIHI JKJK LMLM NONO PQPR

The sun hath shed its kindly lightA
Our harvesting is gladly o'erB
Our fields have felt no killing blightA
Our bins are filled with goodly storeC
-
From pestilence fire flood and swordD
We have been spared by thy decreeE
And now with humble hearts O LordD
We come to pay our thanks to theeE
-
We feel that had our merits beenF
The measure of thy gifts to usG
We erring children born of sinF
Might not now be rejoicing thusG
-
No deed of ours hath brought us graceH
When thou were nigh our sight was dullI
We hid in trembling from thy faceH
But thou O God wert mercifulI
-
Thy mighty hand o'er all the landJ
Hath still been open to bestowK
Those blessings which our wants demandJ
From heaven whence all blessings flowK
-
Thou hast with ever watchful eyeL
Looked down on us with holy careM
And from thy storehouse in the skyL
Hast scattered plenty everywhereM
-
Then lift we up our songs of praiseN
To thee O Father good and kindO
To thee we consecrate our daysN
Be thine the temple of each mindO
-
With incense sweet our thanks ascendP
Before thy works our powers pallQ
Though we should strive years without endP
We could not thank thee for them allR
