A Sailor's Song Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDE DFGFHH IJKJLL BAMANN

Oh for the breath of the briny deepA
And the tug of the bellying sailB
With the sea gull's cry across the skyC
And a passing boatman's hailB
For be she fierce or be she gayD
The sea is a famous friend alwayE
-
Ho for the plains where the dolphins playD
And the bend of the mast and sparsF
And a fight at night with the wild sea spriteG
When the foam has drowned the starsF
And pray what joy can the landsman feelH
Like the rise and fall of a sliding keelH
-
Fair is the mead the lawn is fairI
And the birds sing sweet on the leaJ
But the echo soft of a song aloftK
Is the strain that pleases meJ
And swish of rope and ring of chainL
Are music to men who sail the mainL
-
Then if you love me let me sailB
While a vessel dares the deepA
For the ship 's my wife and the breath of lifeM
Are the raging gales that sweepA
And when I 'm done with calm and blastN
A slide o'er the side and rest at lastN
