A Madrigal Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBACC DBBDEE FGGFHH IJKILL

Dream days of fond delight and hoursA
As rosy hued as dawn are mineB
Love's drowsy wineB
Brewed from the heart of Passion flowersA
Flows softly o'er my lipsC
And save thee all the world is in eclipseC
-
There were no light if thou wert notD
The sun would be too sad to shineB
And all the lineB
Of hours from dawn would be a blotD
And Night would haunt the skiesE
An unlaid ghost with staring dark ringed eyesE
-
Oh love if thou wert not my loveF
And I perchance not thine what thenG
Could gift of menG
Or favor of the God aboveF
Plant aught in this bare heartH
Or teach this tongue the singer's soulful artH
-
Ah no 'Tis love and love aloneI
That spurs my soul so surely onJ
Turns night to dawnK
And thorns to roses fairest blownI
And winter drear to springL
Oh were it not for love I could not singL
