A Border Ballad Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFE GHIIDEJE KLKLHEME

Oh I have n't got long to live for we allA
Die soon e'en those who live longestB
And the poorest and weakest are taking their chanceC
Along with the richest and strongestB
So it's heigho for a glass and a songD
And a bright eye over the tableE
And a dog for the hunt when the game is flushF
And the pick of a gentleman's stableE
-
There is Dimmock o' Dune he was here yester nightG
But he 's rotting to day on Glen ArraghH
'Twas the hand o' MacPherson that gave him the blowI
And the vultures shall feast on his marrowI
But it's heigho for a brave old songD
And a glass while we are ableE
Here 's a health to death and another cupJ
To the bright eye over the tableE
-
I can show a broad back and a jolly deep chestK
But who argues now on appearanceL
A blow or a thrust or a stumble at bestK
May send me to day to my clearanceL
Then it's heigho for the things I loveH
My mother 'll be soon wearing sableE
But give me my horse and my dog and my glassM
And a bright eye over the tableE
