If Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCACDEFE EGAGHIHI HJHJAKAK AHAHBHJH LMNMOHPH

A Steal from KiplingA
-
If you can hit the trail in zero weatherB
And laugh at frozen hand or foot or faceC
If you can eat your dogs and still keep movingA
And beat the rest and hold the stampede's paceC
If you can stake and dig alone unaidedD
And hold your ground if needs be with a gunE
And find the gold and have some lawyer steal itF
And lose and start again and call it funE
-
If you can go a year on mouldy baconE
And fight the scurvy off with bayo beansG
If you can jump your socks and do your washingA
And smile the while you patch your threadbare jeansG
If you can laugh when sordid hunger mocks youH
And smile while passing strangers eat your grubI
If you can boost when everybody knocks youH
And know him wrong who holds you but a dubI
-
If you can still the pain when Outside calls youH
And choke back thoughts of friends you still hold dearJ
If you can still the dreams when night befalls youH
And wake and strike while eyes and brain are clearJ
If you can wait and stick it out a smilingA
When longing letters come to you from homeK
And then don't find the taste of hootch beguilingA
You'll like this Land from Seward up to NomeK
-
If you can bear the deadly strain of waitingA
Till your turn comes and fortune smiles on youH
If you can fight and lose and keep on fightingA
And to your early promises stay trueH
If you can go thru Hell to spend the summerB
And cuss and freeze and starve the winter thruH
And start in broke again another New YearJ
You don't need this Land to make a man of youH
-
If you can beat the Row the Game the Dance hallL
And all men's pleasures that you know are sinM
If you can live alone and not get lonesomeN
Nor heed the lady when she says come inM
If you can pick a winner from the wild catsO
And hold and hope when everything looks blueH
If you can give up everything you've ever cared forP
Then ALASKA IS THE ONLY PLACE FOR YOUH
