To Our Parents Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCBBDEBE AFGFADAD HIJIABAB ABKBLGLG AMAMBBNB

WRITTEN BY REQUEST FOR A GOLDEN WEDDINGA
-
-
Full fifty years togetherB
Father and mother dearC
Through pleasant summer weatherB
Or wintry tempests drearB
Thro' sunshine and thro' shadowD
Oft travel sore and triedE
Yet strong to aid each otherB
You've journeyed side by sideE
-
A few brief years of climbingA
One glad exultant glanceF
At the sun bright world around youG
At the smiling heaven's expanseF
And then the slow descendingA
Into the vale belowD
Where the light with shade is blendingA
And the deamy waters flowD
-
Full fifty years of travelH
Then on your worn staves restI
And welcome home your childrenJ
And many an honored guestI
We come to give you greetingA
We come to bring you cheerB
To hail with glad rejoicingA
This fiftieth wedded yearB
-
We know your hearts are askingA
For one who is not hereB
Whose voice was sweetest musicK
Whose smile was very dearB
But the blessed Heaven that holds himL
Is very near to youG
And the warm love that enfolds himL
Enfolds his parents tooG
-
Then let the tears we're sheddingA
Have naught of grief's alloyM
And let this GOLDEN WEDDINGA
Be one of tranquil joyM
God bless our honored fatherB
God bless our mother dearB
And a thousand thousand welcomesN
To this fiftieth wedded yearB
