Giving up three for one motherA
You said in the long agoB
When father yourself and John motherA
I left o'er the deep to goB
Giving up three for one motherA
You said and it sank in my heartC
For tho' strong was my love for the one motherA
It was hard from the three to partC
-
But to day as I sit alone motherA
Rocking my little one's bedD
Not Winnie's bed dear but her brother'sE
I am thinking of what you saidD
And a sweet thought glads my heart motherA
Can you guess what the thought can beF
'Tis that tho' I'd but one in the start motherA
Yet now I have three for threeF
-
Yes three for three my motherA
God is good to your wandering childG
So far from her father and brotherA
And you in this western wildG
And tho' her heart oftentimes yearnethH
For its loved ones over the seaF
Yet ever it gratefully turnethH
To its home ties three for threeF
-
Aye three for three sweet motherA
Say am I not happy to dayI
Tho' something must ever be wantingJ
While far from you all awayI
Then thank the dear Lord my motherA
Who afar o'er the lonely seaF
Is blessing your absent daughterA
With home ties three for threeF
