I heard a voice twas the voice of SpringA
Up from the rivulets murmuringA
Singing of freedom thus the layB
On the breezes floated awayB
Joy joy the chains that bound usC
Now disappearD
Sunlight pours its treasures round usC
Warm warm and clearD
Onward speeding onwardE
To the bright mainF
Chainless free unfetteredE
Are we againG
-
I heard a voice 'twas the voice of SpringA
Out from the hill sides whisperingA
And a tender strain from the woodland loneH
Blended with it in murmurous toneH
Joy joy the world is wakingA
From her long restI
Earth a glow of warmth is takingA
To her chill breastI
Tiny flower germs hiddenJ
Long out of sightK
Stealing forth unbiddenJ
Seek the warm lightK
-
I heard a voice 'twas the voice of SpringA
Over the waters wanderingA
As to the wilds came the song birds backL
Singing still in their homeward trackL
Joy joy we're home returningA
To the free hillsM
From our long and far sojourningA
Now to the rillsM
To the echoing forestN
Orchard and plainJ
With our old time musicO
Speed we againJ
-
I heard a voice 'twas the voice of SpringA
Nature all Nature awoke to singA
And every valley and grove and plainJ
Had its share in the welcome strainJ
Joy joy the chains are brokenJ
Spring smiles againJ
Joy for every blessed tokenJ
Of her glad reignJ
Joy on all the watersM
Joy on each shoreP
Sunlight song sweet odorsM
Welcome once moreP
