Strike The Chords Softly Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF EDED EGEG

Strike the chords softly with tremulous fingersA
While on the threshold of happiest yearsB
For a brief moment fond memory lingersA
Ere we go forth to life's conflicts and fearsB
-
Strike the chords softly yet no as we tarryC
Swiftly the morning is gliding awayD
Weary ones droop 'neath the burdens they carryC
Toiling ones faint in the heat of the dayD
-
Let us not linger Earth's millions are cryingE
Come to us aid us we grope in the nightF
Come to us aid us we're perishing dyingE
Give us oh give us the heavenly LightF
-
Let us not linger our brethren are callingE
Aid us the harvest increases each dayD
Some have grown weary alas of their toilingE
Others have passed from their labors awayD
-
Gracious Redeemer we go at thy biddingE
Gladly encountering peril and lossG
Take us ourselves to thy work we are givingE
Giveus 'tis more than we merit thy crossG
