Laughing and singingA
With rhythmical flowB
Leaping and springingA
O light hearted SaultC
Tossing up snowy handsD
In thy glad playE
Shaking out dewy locksF
Bright with the sprayE
Joyously everG
Thy bright waters goB
Yet wearying neverG
O beautiful SaultC
-
Kingly SuperiorG
Leaps to thy armsH
And all his broad watersI
Are bright with thy charmsH
They sparkle and glitterG
And flash in their playE
Chasing ripple and rainbowB
Away and awayE
Weary I weenJ
Of his solemn reposeK
Gaily the mighty FloodL
Flashes and glowsK
And buoyantly brightlyM
Fleet footed or slowB
Doth dance with thee lightlyM
Unwearying SaultC
-
If I were a fairyM
I'd dance with thee tooN
Daily and nightlyM
Unfalt'ring and trueN
In sunlight and starlightO
In darkness and dayE
As free as the breezesP
As glad in our playE
We'd sing in the darknessQ
We'd laugh in the lightO
We'd whirl in the eddiesR
At noonday and nightO
We'd toss up the watersI
In sunshine to seeM
How they'd fling us back di'mondsS
And gold in their gleeM
Such amethysts topazesS
Rubies and pearlsS
As we'd strew o'er the tideT
In our innocent whirlsS
And never be lonelyM
Or weariness knowB
Ourselves and us onlyM
O light hearted SaultC
-
Yet the dance is thine ownJ
And the song and the gleeM
Thou dwellest aloneJ
Untrammelled and freeM
Our ships may not glideT
O'er thy bosom our feetU
May not trace out one pathV
Or explore one retreatU
We may hollow our channelsS
To left or to rightO
And glide on our wayE
With thy gambols in sightO
Yet this and this onlyM
Of thee we may knowB
Thou lone but not lonelyM
Free fetterless SaultC
-
Farewell ye bright watersS
We part and for ayeW
My pathway leads onJ
O'er the billows awayE
These feet will grow wearyM
In life's busy martX
These eyes be oft tear dimY
And heavy this heartX
But thou wilt sing onJ
In thy joyous unrestZ
Unchanging unwearyingB
Buoyant and blestZ
While the slow footed centuriesS
Glide on their wayE
And nations grow hoaryM
And sink in decayE
Thou tireless and tamelessS
Unchecked in thy flowB
Shalt sing on as everG
O beautiful SaultC
