Sanzas Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCBCDEFE GBGBHIAI JKJKLMNM BKBKBOBO

Whom have I in heaven but theeA
-
-
'Twere nought to me yon glorious arch of nightB
Decked with the gorgeous blazonry of heavenC
If to my faith amid its splendors brightB
No vision of the Eternal One were givenC
I could but view a dreary soulless wasteD
A vast expanse of solitude unknownE
More cheerless for the splendors o'er it castF
For all its grandeur more intensely loneE
-
'Twere nought to me this ever changing sceneG
Of earthly beauty sunshine and delightB
The wood's deep shadows and the valley's greenG
Morn's tender glow and sunset's splendors brightB
Nought if my Father smiled not from the skyH
The cloud the flower the landscape and the leafI
My soul would pine 'mid Earth's vain pageantryA
And droop in hopeless orphanage and griefI
-
'Twere nought to me the Ocean's far expanseJ
If His perfections were not mirrored thereK
Hopeless across the unmeasured waste I'd glanceJ
And clasp my hands in anguish not in prayerK
Nought Nature's anthem ever swelling upL
From Nature's myriad voices for the hymnM
Would breathe nor love nor gratitude nor hopeN
Robbed of the tones that speak to me of HimM
-
This wondrous universe how less than noughtB
Without my God how desolate and drearK
A mockery Earth with her vain splendors fraughtB
A gilded pageant every rolling sphereK
The noonday sun with all his glories crownedB
A sickly flame would glimmer faint and paleO
And all Earth's melodies their sweetness drownedB
Be but the utt'rance of a funeral wailO
