Our Field Is The World Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABACAC ADADEBEB DFDFDGDG DHDHDIDI

Our field is the world let us forth to the sowingA
O'er valley and mountain o'er desert and plainB
Beside the still waters through cool meadows flowingA
O'er regions unblest by the dew and the rainB
Let us scatter the seed though in sorrow and weepingA
Though fields should be verdureless wintry and bareC
The Lord of the harvest hath still in His keepingA
Each seed as it falls and will guard it with careC
-
Our field is the world let us forth to the reapingA
The long day is waning the eve draweth nighD
Faint omens of storm up the heavens are creepingA
And the sigh of the tempest is heard in the skyD
The work hour is brief but the rest is foreverE
Then stay not for weariness languor or painB
But forth to the harvest with earnest endeavorE
And gather with gladness the sheaves that remainB
-
Our field is the world let us forth to the gleaningD
The stores may be small that our labors rewardF
Yet One from the height of His glory is leaningD
Attent to behold what we do for the LordF
Where haply some reaper has passed on with singingD
O'erladen with sheaves for the garner aboveG
May yet be some handfuls that wait for our bringingD
To crown with completeness the stores of His loveG
-
Our field is the world whether sowing or reapingD
Or gleaning the handfuls that others have passedH
Or waiting the growth of the seed that with weepingD
On rocky and desolate plains we have castH
Yet each for his toiling and each for his mourningD
Shall sometime rejoice when the harvest is doneI
And know in the flush of Eternity's morningD
That the toil the reward and the glory are oneI
