Mary Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EAEA FGHG IJIJ DKDL

Thus early with the deadA
Thou of the young fair brow the laughing eyeB
The light and joyous treadA
Mary we little thought thou would'st be first to dieB
-
A little while agoC
We saw thee first in girlhood's early bloomD
Now thou art lying lowC
Thy pale hands crossed in slumber silent in the tombD
-
Ah me 'tis hard to speakE
Of thee as of the dead the pale still deadA
'Tis hard to think the b'eakE
Stern blast of winter sweeps above thy low cold bedA
-
-
-
Thus early with thy GodF
'Twas a rich boon He sent whose loving voiceG
Called thee to His abodeH
'Mid the sweet bowers of Heaven forever to rejoiceG
-
Mary thy feet have passedI
The silent valley on thy placid browJ
Heaven's sunlight falls at lastI
Thou'rt with God's shining ones thyself an angel nowJ
-
Thank God the dreary tombD
Has lost its sting The Saviour broke death's reignK
Clothing with fadeless bloomD
Frail human dust In Heaven Mary we'll meet againL
