Let Us Pray Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCBDEEEE FGFGEEEE EHEHFEFE AIAIAEAE

note A precious memory is associated with these words The voice that uttered them is silent now but the solemnity of their utterance has not passed away The below is a feeble attempt to give it something like permanencyA
-
-
Bow the head in supplicationB
Lowly penitent sincereC
Worthiest of adorationB
God the Holy One is hereD
Here while through the open casementE
Gently beams the rising dayE
While in contrite self abasementE
Rev'rently we kneel and prayE
-
Let us pray we're weak and wearyF
Faint of heart and slow of limbG
Over mountains dark and drearyF
Lies our pathway narrow dimG
Thorn beset and demon hauntedE
Steep and slipp'ry is the wayE
Would we tread it all undauntedE
Firm of footstep let us prayE
-
Let us pray on every spiritE
Secret solemn records lieH
Of transgression and demeritE
On'y seen by God's pure eyeH
Secret sins desires unholyF
Thoughts impure that once held swayE
Oh in penitence most lowlyF
Deeply contrite let us prayE
-
Let us pray we need forgivenessA
Strength and patience to endureI
For our arduous labors fitnessA
Spirits consecrate and pureI
Shelter need when storms are round usA
Bread of Heavenly life each dayE
Help when hidden snares surround usA
Guidance always let us prayE
