Come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden and I will give you restA
-
-
I gave myself to JesusB
In my sunny childhood's yearsC
When on my young unsullied cheekD
There lay no trace of tearsE
I little knew what gift I gaveF
Nor yet what gift I tookG
For life without and life withinH
Were each a sealed up bookG
-
But soon enough unfolding yearsC
Brought sorrow toil and painI
Brought disappointment's burning tearsE
And yearnings wild and vainI
And then I learned what precious GiftJ
In Jesus I receivedK
In that still hour of childish trustL
When my young heart believedK
-
'Twas then I knew what arm unseenM
Was round me 'mid the strifeN
The blighted hope the toil uncheeredK
The cold rude storms of lifeN
And when the reeds on which I leanedK
All failed me one by oneO
I clasped my pierced and bleeding handsP
And wept but not aloneQ
-
For He was near me midst the strifeN
And leaning on His armR
I trod the thorny paths of lifeN
Safe sheltered from all harmR
The while He whispered to my heartK
I gave my life for theeS
Then heavy laden as thou artK
Cast all thy care on meS
-
On me ON ME oh gentle wordK
O Sympathy divineT
O Fount of joy how deeply stirredK
Within this heart of mineT
O cool sweet Waters how ye stilledK
The fever of my brainI
And soothed the heart strings that had thrilledK
With agonizing painI
-
My own My Rock the heavy tideK
May beat in uproar dreadK
Calmly 'gainst its unmoving sideK
I rest my weary headK
For well I know how deep it strikesU
Beneath the raging floodK
My Soul's firm Anchor 'mid the strifeN
My Refuge and my GodK
