Be in earnest Christian toilersA
Life is not the summer dreamB
Of the careless child that gathersA
Daisies in the noontide beamB
It hath conflict it hath dangerC
It hath sorrow toil and strifeD
Yet the weak alone will falterC
In the battle field of lifeD
-
There are burdens you may lightenE
Toiling struggling ones may cheerF
Tear dimmed eyes that you may brightenE
Thorny paths that you may clearF
Erring ones despised neglectedG
You may lead to duty backH
Beacon lights to be erectedG
All along life's crowded trackH
-
There are wrongs that must be rightedI
Sacred rights to be sustainedJ
Truths though trampled long and slightedI
'Mid the strife to be maintainedJ
Heavy brooding mists to scatterC
Mists of ignorance and sinK
Walls of adamant to shatterC
Thus to let God's sunlight inK
-
Boundless is the field and fertileL
Let the ploughshare deep be drivenE
So at length the plenteous harvestM
Shall look smiling up to heavenE
Sow the seed at early morningN
Nor at evening stay thy handO
Precious fruits the earth adorningN
Shall at length around thee standO
-
Be in earnest Christian toilersA
Life is not the summer dreamB
Of the careless child that gathersA
Daisies in the noontide beamB
Life hath conflict toil and dangerC
It hath sorrow pain and strifeD
Yet the weak alone will falterC
In the battle field of lifeD
