Beautiful Autumn is dead and goneB
Weep for herC
Calm and gracious and very fairD
With sunny robe and with shining hairD
And a tender light in her dreamy eyeA
She came to earth but to smile and dieA
Weep for herC
-
Nay nay I will not weepE
She came with a smileF
And tarried awhileF
Quieting Nature to sleepE
Then went on her wayG
O'er the hill tops greyG
And yet and yet she is dead you sayG
Nay she brought us blessings and left us cheerH
And alive and well shell return next yearH
Why should I weepE

-
Desolate Winter has come againI
Frown on himJ
He comes with a withering breathK
With a gloomy scowlL
With a shriek and a howlL
Freezing Nature to deathK
He stamps on the hillsM
He fetters the rillsM
And every hollow with snow he fillsM
Frown on the monster grim and oldN
With snowy robes and with fingers coldN
And a gusty breathK
-
Nay nay I shall give him a smileF
For I know by the sleetO
And the snow in the streetO
He has come to tarry awhileF
Ho for the sleigh bells merrily ringingP
Ho for the skaters joyously singingP
Over the ice fields gliding swingingP
So let the Winter king whiten the plainQ
Fetter the fountains and frost the paneQ
His greeting shall beR
Not a frown from meR
But a smile a smileF
