Alone Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFE GHGHGIGI JKJKLILI

Alone alone the night is very silentA
Voiceless the stars are and the pallid moonB
Through the unknown sends down no tone no utt'ranceC
To break the hush of midnight's solemn noonB
I stretch my arms toward the unanswering heavensD
'Tis empty space no form no shape is hereE
I call no answer to my cry is givenF
Powerless my voice falls on Night's leaden earE
-
Alone alone I thought the dead were near meG
The holy dead E'en now methought I heardH
Low tones whose music long ago did cheer meG
That shadowy hands the parting branches stirredH
'Twas but the night wind's mournful sigh above meG
'Twas but the lonely streamlet's grieving toneI
No voice comes back from those who once did love meG
No white hand beckons I am all aloneI
-
Alone not so One sacred unseen PresenceJ
Fills the far depths broods round me and aboveK
Enfolding all in His own OmnipresenceJ
Pervading all with His unstinted loveK
In Him I live and move and have my beingL
My soul's deep yearnings all to Him are knownI
On me in kindness rests His eye all seeingL
His arm upholds me I am not aloneI
