Untitled 1 Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCDEDEDFGFGHIJI KLKL| I gladly would sing in a joyous strain | A |
| But my heart of its joy is bereft | B |
| For my young life there is nought but grief and pain | A |
| And a haunting memory left | B |
| Look at the stars how they gleam from the skies | C |
| On me with a frosty stare | D |
| Can it be that this world hath no pitying eyes | C |
| For the houseless child of care | D |
| Ye that look on me have homes tonight | E |
| And loving ones wait you there | D |
| And the cheerful fire is burning bright | E |
| And young faces are beaming fair | D |
| Though a thousand homes are around I know | F |
| 'Mong them all there is no home for me | G |
| For I must sleep in the cold white snow | F |
| And the skies must my shelter be | G |
| My life is still in its summer years | H |
| But its flowers can bloom no more | I |
| I weep and mine are the bitter tears | J |
| That are wept for the joys of yore | I |
| Then I cannot be glad for my heart will cling | K |
| To the grief that is all its own | L |
| So wonder not that I only sing | K |
| A song with a mournful tone | L |
