Untitled 1 Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCDEDEDFGFGHIJI KLKL

I gladly would sing in a joyous strainA
But my heart of its joy is bereftB
For my young life there is nought but grief and painA
And a haunting memory leftB
Look at the stars how they gleam from the skiesC
On me with a frosty stareD
Can it be that this world hath no pitying eyesC
For the houseless child of careD
Ye that look on me have homes tonightE
And loving ones wait you thereD
And the cheerful fire is burning brightE
And young faces are beaming fairD
Though a thousand homes are around I knowF
'Mong them all there is no home for meG
For I must sleep in the cold white snowF
And the skies must my shelter beG
My life is still in its summer yearsH
But its flowers can bloom no moreI
I weep and mine are the bitter tearsJ
That are wept for the joys of yoreI
Then I cannot be glad for my heart will clingK
To the grief that is all its ownL
So wonder not that I only singK
A song with a mournful toneL
