Sonnet On Approaching Italy Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBACDEEDC F

I reached the Alps the soul within me burnedA
Italia my Italia at thy nameB
And when from out the mountain's heart I cameB
And saw the land for which my life had yearnedA
I laughed as one who some great prize had earnedA
And musing on the marvel of thy fameB
I watched the day till marked with wounds of flameB
The turquoise sky to burnished gold was turnedA
The pine trees waved as waves a woman's hairC
And in the orchards every twining sprayD
Was breaking into flakes of blossoming foamE
But when I knew that far away at RomeE
In evil bonds a second Peter layD
I wept to see the land so very fairC
