Louis Napoleon Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBA CDCE FGGF HIHI

Eagle of Austerlitz where were thy wingsA
When far away upon a barbarous strandB
In fight unequal by an obscure handB
Fell the last scion of thy brood of KingsA
-
Poor boy thou shalt not flaunt thy cloak of redC
Or ride in state through Paris in the vanD
Of thy returning legions but insteadC
Thy mother France free and republicanE
-
Shall on thy dead and crownless forehead placeF
The better laurels of a soldier's crownG
That not dishonoured should thy soul go downG
To tell the mighty Sire of thy raceF
-
That France hath kissed the mouth of LibertyH
And found it sweeter than his honied beesI
And that the giant wave DemocracyH
Breaks on the shores where Kings lay couched at easeI
