Apologia Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IEIE JEJE KLML NOPO LQLQ

Is it thy will that I should wax and waneA
Barter my cloth of gold for hodden greyB
And at thy pleasure weave that web of painA
Whose brightest threads are each a wasted dayB
-
Is it thy will Love that I love so wellC
That my Soul's House should be a tortured spotD
Wherein like evil paramours must dwellC
The quenchless flame the worm that dieth notD
-
Nay if it be thy will I shall endureE
And sell ambition at the common martF
And let dull failure be my vestitureE
And sorrow dig its grave within my heartF
-
Perchance it may be better so at leastG
I have not made my heart a heart of stoneH
Nor starved my boyhood of its goodly feastG
Nor walked where Beauty is a thing unknownH
-
Many a man hath done so sought to fenceI
In straitened bonds the soul that should be freeE
Trodden the dusty road of common senseI
While all the forest sang of libertyE
-
Not marking how the spotted hawk in flightJ
Passed on wide pinion through the lofty airE
To where some steep untrodden mountain heightJ
Caught the last tresses of the Sun God's hairE
-
Or how the little flower he trod uponK
The daisy that white feathered shield of goldL
Followed with wistful eyes the wandering sunM
Content if once its leaves were aureoledL
-
But surely it is something to have beenN
The best beloved for a little whileO
To have walked hand in hand with Love and seenP
His purple wings flit once across thy smileO
-
Ay though the gorged asp of passion feedL
On my boy's heart yet have I burst the barsQ
Stood face to face with Beauty known indeedL
The Love which moves the Sun and all the starsQ
