Rhyme Scheme: A BBAACCDDEFAAGGHHIIJJ KKHHLLHHMMHHHHMNOO

TRANSLATION FROM THE ENEID BOOK IA
-
THE god looked out upon the troubled deepB
Waked into tumult from its placid sleepB
The flame of anger kindles in his eyeA
As the wild waves ascend the lowering skyA
He lifts his head above their awful heightC
And to the distant fleet directs his sightC
Now borne aloft upon the billow's crestD
Struck by the bolt or by the winds oppressedD
And well he knew that Juno's vengeful ireE
Frowned from those clouds and sparkled in that fireF
On rapid pinions as they whistled byA
He calls swift Zephyrus and Eurus nighA
Is this your glory in a noble lineG
To leave your confines and to ravage mineG
Whom I but let these troubled waves subsideH
Another tempest and I'll quell your prideH
Go bear our message to your master's earI
That wide as ocean I am despot hereI
Let him sit monarch in his barren cavesJ
I wield the trident and control the wavesJ
He said and as the gathered vapors breakK
The swelling ocean seemed a peaceful lakeK
To lift their ships the graceful nymphs essayedH
And the strong trident lent its powerful aidH
The dangerous banks are sunk beneath the mainL
And the light chariot skims the unruffled plainL
As when sedition fires the public mindH
And maddening fury leads the rabble blindH
The blazing torch lights up the dread alarmM
Rage points the steel and fury nerves the armM
Then if some reverend Sage appear in sightH
They stand they gaze and check their headlong flightH
He turns the current of each wandering breastH
And hushes every passion into restH
Thus by the power of his imperial armM
The boiling ocean trembled into calmN
With flowing reins the father sped his wayO
And smiled serene upon rekindled dayO
