The Hydra Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEEFFGGHH

The Hydra Hercules defiedA
Its nine diminished heads must hideA
Before the baneful modern beastB
Who has a thousand heads at leastB
See how in horrid tiers they riseC
With straining ears and bulging eyesC
While blinded by fierce calcium raysD
The trembling victim tribute paysD
Of song or measure mime or jestE
To soothe the savage Hydra's breastE
If she please not the monster's whimF
Wild scribes will tear her limb from limbF
Even if charmed he rend the airG
With hideous joy let her bewareG
For she must surely soon or lateH
Fall 'neath the hissing Hydra's hateH
