Whilst Lucius limn'd with loving skill | A |
Her likeness as a Shepherdess | B |
Yet tho' he strove with loving skill | A |
His Brush refused to work his Will | A |

Dear Maid unless you close your Eyes | B |
I cannot paint to day he said | C |
Their Brightness shames the very Skies | B |
And turns their Turquoise into Lead | C |
Quoth Phyllis then To save the Skies | B |
And speed your Brush I'll shut my Eyes | B |

Now when her Eyes were closed the Dear | D |
Not dreaming of such Treachery | E |
Felt a Soft Whisper in her Ear | F |
Without the Light how can one See | E |
If you are sure that none can see | E |
I'll keep them shut said Phyllis Lee | E |
