Phyllis Lee Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABAA BCBCBB DEFEEE

Beside a Primrose 'broider'd RillA
Sat Phyllis Lee in Silken DressB
Whilst Lucius limn'd with loving skillA
Her likeness as a ShepherdessB
Yet tho' he strove with loving skillA
His Brush refused to work his WillA
-
Dear Maid unless you close your EyesB
I cannot paint to day he saidC
Their Brightness shames the very SkiesB
And turns their Turquoise into LeadC
Quoth Phyllis then To save the SkiesB
And speed your Brush I'll shut my EyesB
-
Now when her Eyes were closed the DearD
Not dreaming of such TreacheryE
Felt a Soft Whisper in her EarF
Without the Light how can one SeeE
If you are sure that none can seeE
I'll keep them shut said Phyllis LeeE
