The Decimal Point Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGFHF HIHICFCF

When first sent to School now the Station was RugbyA
I fancied my masters and took to the boysB
I thought to myself here 'tis plain I shall snug beA
Revolving at last in an orbit of joysB
The Alphabet Grecian I quickly could stammerC
Nor ran any risk of a jaw out of jointD
I waddled sedately through Fatherland GrammarC
But own I was floored by the Decimal PointD
-
Le Roi de Montagnes was my Gallic translationE
And soon I was praised by my master who saidF
I certainly deem that with good educationE
A Scholarship laurel should circle your headF
I revelled in idioms I thrilled at the phrasesG
I knew how to render avaunt and arointF
But own that I shed many tears on the daisiesH
Of Rugby when stumped by the Decimal PointF
-
I mastered the building proceedings of BalbusH
And rarely omitted a requisite cumI
I never remarked that an equa was albusH
And deftly supplied the subjunctive with quumI
No canis to me was a dog in the mangerC
A classic by Fate I was clearly anointF
I own though I ran into desperate dangerC
When fogged and be fooled by the Decimal PointF
