Old Letters Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFE GHIHJKLK MNONPGQG BERESKMK

Last night some yellow letters fellA
From out a scrip I found by chanceB
Among them was the silent ghostC
The spirit of my first romanceB
And in a faint blue envelopeD
A withered rose long lost to dewE
Bore witness to the dashing daysF
When love was large and wits were fewE
-
Yet standing there all worn and greyG
The teardrops quivered in my eyesH
To think of Youth's unshaken frontI
The forehead lifted to the skiesH
How rough a hill my eager feetJ
Flung backward when upon its crestK
I saw the flutter of the laceL
The wind awoke on Helen's breastK
-
How thornless were the roses thenM
When fresh young eyes and lips were kindN
When Cupid in our porches provedO
How true the tale that Love is blindN
But Red and White and PovertyP
Would only mate while shone the MayG
Then came a Bag of Golden CrownsQ
And jingled Red and White awayG
-
Grown old and niggard of romanceB
I wince not much at aught askewE
And often ask my favourite catR
What else had Red and White to doE
And here's the bud that rose and sankS
A crimson island on her breastK
Why should I burn it Once againM
Hide rose and dream God send me restK
