Dearest of all whose tenderness could riseA
To share all sorrow and to soothe all painB
The blessings breathed for thee with weeping eyesA
Will come to thee as sunshine after rainB
-
My spirit clings to thine dear in this hourC
Thy sorrow touches me as though 'twere mineD
And pleading prayers for thee shall have the powerC
To draw down comfort from my Lord and thineD
-
For thou hast felt the sorrow and the careE
Of other lives as though they were thine ownF
And grateful prayers for a memorial areG
Laid up for thee before the great white throneF
-
You sit bereaved and I sit with you thereE
In sympathy my soul and yours can meetH
Missing the face that was so very fairE
Missing the voice that was so very sweetH
-
I know how hard to bear heart hunger isI
For her quaint words and bits of bird like songJ
The touch of dimpled hands the soft warm kissK
O Friend it makes the little while so longJ
-
Take comfort dear the little while is briefL
It is His love sends pain to thee or meM
We gather fruit of peace from blossomed griefL
And where our treasure is our hearts shall beM
-
'Tis good to suffer as He knows whose handN
Mixes the bitterness for every cupO
No grief befals but love divine has plannedN
Every bereavement cries to us look upO
-
Dearest look up and see where sweet and fairE
Flow the bright waters ruffled by no stormP
Under the trees whose leaves for healing areG
See 'mid the blessed throng one angel formP
-
The tired pet who wanted to go homeQ
The Elder Brother drew her to his breastR
Earth weariness earth soil alike unknownF
Crowned without conflict bore her into restR
-
Among the shining ones she walks my friendS
Robed in the garments of her FatherlandN
And your earth weary feet shall upward tendS
Drawn by the beck of that dear pierced handN
-
Who in his arms enfolds your little oneT
And calls you Come up higher where we areG
For with the well belov'd the child is goneU
Follow and faint not friend it is not farG
-
The little one for whom your fond heart bleedsV
The dear dear lamb who sees her Father's faceW
Up to the great white throne the rough path leadsV
Where Christ shall fold you both in one embraceW
