To Mary Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFGH IJIJ KLKL MNMN

It is not very long since first we metA
Thy path and mine lay very far apartB
We are not of one nation dear one yetA
Thou hast awakened love within my heartB
-
It is a love that sorrow never triedC
And yet like tested love it is as trueD
As love that stood in dark hours by your sideC
If hours were ever dark or sad to youD
-
Not for your beauty though I think you fairE
Not for the kind heart or the tender wordF
But for the kindredship because you wereG
One who both knew and loved my gracious LordH
-
One who had often met with Him aloneI
One over whom His garment had been laidJ
Clothed on with beauty that was not your ownI
Bought with a price no other could have paidJ
-
Divided by the ridge of time are weK
Yet we are near akin at heart my friendL
Our prayers and praises will together beK
Blended and fused in one as they ascendL
-
For I too heard the Well Beloved's voiceM
Calling the new life in the soul to wakeN
Drawing us after Him in loving choiceM
Making us love His loved ones for His sakeN
