Rhyme Scheme: ABAA CACA DEDF CGCG HIHI GJGJ| Dear Jane you say you will gather flowers | A |
| To win if you may a verse from me | B |
| Can you bring to me those brillant hours | A |
| When life was gladdened by poesy | A |
| - | |
| Bring me the rose with pearls on her breast | C |
| Dropped down as tears from early skies | A |
| Pale lilies gather among the rest | C |
| And little daisies with starry eyes | A |
| - | |
| The heart's ease bring for many a day | D |
| In vain for that flow'ret fair I sought | E |
| Turn not your gathering hand away | D |
| From the wee blue flower forget me not | F |
| - | |
| Unless inspiration on them rest | C |
| In vain you tempt me to rise and sing | G |
| The passage bird that sang in my breast | C |
| Has fled away with my life's young spring | G |
| - | |
| My harp on a lonely grave is laid | H |
| Untuned unstrung it will lie there long | I |
| If you bring flowers alone dear maid | H |
| Without bringing the spirit of song | I |
| - | |
| But accept the friendship that can spring | G |
| Out of this romantic heart of mine | J |
| Devoted true and unwithering | G |
| And for ever thine for ever thine | J |
