To Hon. Malcom Cameron Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EAEF GHGH IJIJ KLKL MNMN DODO

By many a bard the Cameron clan is sungA
Their march their charge their war cry their arrayB
Their laurels that from bloody fields have sprungA
Where they have kept the sternest foes at bayB
-
The flowing tartan and the eagle plumeC
The gathering and the glories of the clanD
Let others sing we will not so presumeC
We bring our humble tribute to the manD
-
The man with heart benevolent and kindE
The man with earnest and persuasive tongueA
Would there were many like him heart and mindE
To combat with this fashionable wrongF
-
Who longs to remedy these human illsG
Feeling God made of one blood all the earthH
Whose sympathies have passed his native hillsG
And spread beyond the clan that gave him birthH
-
Is it not sad when in high places soI
No sense of honour or of shame remainsJ
Men who make laws while reeling to and froI
Statesmen with swaying step and muddled brainsJ
-
For scenes disgrace our new built palace wallsK
And Canada on some reformer waitsL
Shall vice within the Legislative HallsK
Be rampant as the lions on the gatesL
-
Oh for a man of action and of prayerM
Who feels this sin a national disgraceN
A man who has the strength to do and dareM
The pluck and courage of the Celtic raceN
-
If thou art he thou'rt welcome to the vanD
To battle for the right in time of needO
To win fresh laurels for the Cameron clanD
And thousands bid thee heartily God speedO
