I am glad when men of geniusA
Array a common thoughtB
In imperishable beautyC
That it cannot be forgotD
-
The heart thoughts all bright and burnishedE
By high poetic artF
As sweet as the wood bird's warbleG
Touching the very heartF
-
Have not I poor workday mortalG
Some thoughts of living lightH
In the spirit's inner chambersI
Moving with spirit mightH
-
And they come in the fair spring timeJ
Of heart and life and yearK
When sweet Nature's wild rejoicingsI
Draws votaries very nearK
-
To the heart of all that's lovelyC
On earth and in the skyL
Making audible the musicM
Of the inner melodyC
-
Underlying all the sunshineN
Whispering through every breezeI
As it crests the ruffled oceanO
Or sways the forest treesI
-
Bright thoughts that are heart prisonersI
Vibrating on its chordsI
For alas I have not geniusI
To bring them forth in wordsI
-
But full oft like friendship's greetingP
Upon life's weary wayQ
Do I meet in other's languageR
What I most wished to sayQ
-
To such words my bosom echoesI
I feel they are my ownS
They bright echo of my day dreamsI
That else were ever flownS
-
Ah to think ye men of geniusI
What joy your art affordsI
Giving to the thoughts of millionsI
The dress of glowing wordsI
-
And a blessing on these words thenT
To bear them far and freeC
That they glad the hearts of manyC
As they have gladdened meC
