The Orphan's Good-bye Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFG HIJJ JKCD CJCJ FBDB

When my heart was sad and lonelyA
And had closed its inmost cellB
Over the impulsive feelingsC
That rule my nation's hearts too wellB
-
When the tie was cut asunderD
That had bound me to a homeE
And I felt the desolationF
Of being in the world aloneG
-
When I first the veil assumingH
Masked before a treacherous worldI
And the hopes romance expandedJ
Reality had sternly furledJ
-
And the touch of disappointmentJ
Blighted what was green and fairK
And the spirit's bright revealingsC
Are not so hopeful as they wereD
-
Precious are the words of kindnessC
Falling on the heart like dewJ
Freshening though alas for weaknessC
They cannot make things newJ
-
Thoughts come warm from that deep fountainF
Where the hidden feelings dwellB
First to thank thee noble strangerD
Then to say a kind farewellB
-
