The Lake Allumette Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A ABAB CDCD ABAB EFEF AGAG AHAH IAIA

One is notA
-
-
Have you seen the beautiful AllumetteA
The magnificent pine fringed lakeB
In its splendour the sun about to setA
Ere the fair lady moon awakeB
-
The waters are tinged with a golden glowC
With rose and ruby and purple barsD
Heaven's mantle flung on the lake belowC
Till it fades off beneath the starsD
-
The distant hills robed in violet mistA
Of the heavenly hues partakeB
As they stand with the sunlight crowned and kissedA
On guard round the beautiful lakeB
-
Over the waters ride gay little boatsE
Diamonds flash from the dipping oarsF
Laughter and song's mingled melody floatsE
To ripple and die around the shoresF
-
Life is so gay on the Lake AllumetteA
Ah me does its sky ever frownG
On a place unmarked unheeded and yetA
In that place my brother went downG
-
Sad hearted we sit by Lake AllumetteA
Who saw him go down in the waveH
And question ourselves in anguished regretA
Did we make every effort to saveH
-
For those who are left to some one so dearI
We tried feebly warning to setA
We have failed we look with sorrow and fearI
For woe that must come by Lake AllumetteA
