The night was bright and beautifulA
The dew was on the flowerB
The stars were keeping watch it wasC
The lover's parting hourB
-
The night wind rippled o'er the waveD
The moon shone on the twoE
The boat was waiting part they mustF
Eliza love adieuE
-
You know how fondly I have lovedG
How long how true how dearH
And though fate sends me far awayI
My heart will linger hereJ
-
Bright hope the lover's comfort canK
Alone my heart consoleL
Or soothe the pain of parting withM
The empress of my soulL
-
When other suitors vainly talkN
Of fondly loving youE
Remember him who truly lovedG
As no one else can doE
-
I'll think upon the place containsO
My dark eyed source of blissP
When roaming idly blindly throughE
The gay metropolisQ
-
Weep not weep not my dearest girlR
Your tears my bosom painS
Remember fondly added heT
We part to meet againU
-
He made her pledge him heart to heartV
She would not him forgetW
Asked her to sigh when at the spotX
Where they had often metW
-
He spoke much of how deep was stampedY
Her image on his mindZ
One more adieu the boat was goneA2
And she was left behindZ
-
True was the maiden and she keptB2
While weeks and months took wingC2
His name deep treasured in her heartV
As 'twere a sacred thingC2
-
And he did he return againU
Her long love to repayI
No in good sooth as Byron saysD2
He laughed to flee awayI
