My Baby Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB CDEE FFGG HHII GGJJ DDKL AAGG BBMM AANN

He lay on my breast so sweet and fairA
I fondly fancied his home was thereA
Nor thought that the eyes of merry blueB
With baby love for me laughing throughB
-
Were pining to go from whence he cameC
Leaving my arm empty and heart in painD
Longing to spread out his wings and flyE
To his native home far beyond the skyE
-
They took him out of my arms and saidF
My baby so sweet and fair was deadF
My baby that was my heart's delightG
The fair little body they robed in whiteG
-
Flowers they placed at the head and feetH
Like my baby fair like my baby sweetH
They laid him down in a certain placeI
And round him they draped soft folds of laceI
-
Till I'd look my last at my baby whiteG
Before they carried him from my sightG
By the sweet dead babe so fair to seeJ
They tried in kindness to comfort meJ
-
They said he is safe from care and painD
Safe and unspotted by sin or stainD
Before the mystery of the yearsK
Brings heart ache or pang or sorrow's tearsL
-
He's safe sweet lamb in the Shepherd's careA
Sorrow nor suffering enters thereA
But with brow of gladness clothed in lightG
He is fair as the angels in His sightG
-
I know what they said to me was trueB
And should have fallen on my heart like dewB
For although my grief was very soreM
My baby was safe for evermoreM
-
I know that they spoke with kindly careA
My grief to comfort and soothe or shareA
But I gave my baby the last last kissN
Saying God alone comforts grief like thisN
